I had no idea

I had no idea how much I rely on certain things that, in my daily life, I take for granted.  Thunderstorms ravaged my area this weekend and the power was out almost all day saturday.  I had no access to the outside world.  Whatever was I going to do.  I did what any normal, sane, Internet addict would do…I went totally nuts.

I went to town and bought some groceries thinking that I would give the power company an hour or so to get the power back on so I could get back to my weekend routine.  As I pulled into the driveway from getting my grocery shopping out of the way, I could tell immediately that the power was not on, I hesitated for a moment, even pulling into the driveway because I did'nt want to go back inside that house if there was no internet, no TV, no phone, no way to vacum or doing anything else for that matter.

So my daughter suggested we take a nap.  so we did.  We slept for about two hours and still no power after we awoke for our naps.  I could almost see the blood rushing to my head in anger.

So we went back to town (I started to realize that a power shortage is detrimental to my bank account) browsed around the dollar store, bought a few things that we did'nt need and i thought to myself, the phone line works, it's just the phone needs electricity.  So while in the dollar store, I saw a cheap phone that did'nt use power.  I purchased it and rushed home to plug in my new invention and show the world that I could live without power…:)

I came home and installed the pre-1930 mechanism that I had purchased in hopes that it would take me out of the stone ages, and to my surprise, it worked.  The first call I made was to my parents….busy.  So I called work to ask how long the storm would last…my friend, and co-worker, checked the status of the storm and gave me the news that it would be FOREVER before the storm subsided.

I played with the phone for a couple of more hours, then my parents called and asked if my daughter could spend the night with them, they had my nephews over and they were all going to church the next day, So I took her to their house and when i returned, I had power.

I learned that I simply cannot live without power, TV's or phone.
